A player from Fortitudo Messina was hit by illness during a match between his team and Dierre Reggio.
Haitem Jabeur Fathallah, 32, fell unconscious and collapsed while he was in a phase of play, collapsing on the court.
The match was immediately suspended to help the basketball player. Before, some doctors who attended the race from the stands intervened, when they realized the seriousness of the situation they asked for the intervention of an ambulance equipped for resuscitation.
Ambulance that arrived and took him to the Reggio Calabria hospital where the 32-year-old, always unconscious, died.
Fathallah had over 250 appearances in senior basketball leagues. Born in Agrigento, after playing with Porto Empedocle, Racalmuto and Licata, he arrived in Messina in the 2016/2017 season, playing first in the Basket School and later in the Fortitudo Messina.
