«Now I am very projected towards the future and impatient to finally be freed to start a new phase of my life».
Speaking in an interview with La Stampa is Ilaria Salis , the activist of Sardinian origin detained for 15 months in Budapest and elected MEP with Avs.
«I'm spending these days preparing for the work that awaits me in the European Parliament - says Salis, still under house arrest in Hungary - I can't wait to get started. I want to put the protection of fundamental human rights at the center of my action. I want to dedicate myself to supporting men, women and children who are victims of injustice, exploitation, violence, war, poverty and discrimination ."
Salis also talks about her reaction after learning that she had been elected: «I was moved and excited. Very. The most important aspect that this story has demonstrated is that we now know that solidarity is a collective and courageous force that can truly change the world ."
«Anti-fascism – continues Salis – is certainly the strongest and most relevant political value that emerges from this affair, at least for me. Being anti-fascist means fighting against all oppression and taking on the historical responsibility of the fight for freedom with equal rights."
