Sacred icons represent a bridge between the earthly world and the divine, works full of spiritual meaning and symbolism. The exhibition dedicated to iconographic art starts this evening at 6 pm at the Libreria di via Sulis in Cagliari .

The exhibition celebrates the thousand-year-old tradition of icons, which still today continue to speak to our hearts and minds.

Patrizia Atzei, the protagonist of the exhibition, has chosen to work with the ancient technique, the same one used for centuries to create images of devotion, capable of guiding the soul to contemplation.

The creation of an icon is not only a technical exercise, but a true act of faith. Each icon follows a meticulous process that requires patience and dedication. It begins with the preparation of the wooden board, on which a white base of chalk and glue is spread, a symbol of purity. Subsequently, through successive layers of color, applied with extreme precision, the sacred image comes to life. These steps are not only technical, but recall a spiritual journey, since each layer of color, each detail, carries with it a profound meaning. Gold, often used as a background, symbolizes divine light and eternity, creating a luminous contrast that gives the sacred figures an aura of sacredness and transcendence.

Patrizia Atzei, trained under the guidance of iconographer Egon Sendler, has studied this art with an awareness that combines technique, spirituality and tradition . Her works are part of an artistic path that has its roots in Byzantine tradition, but manage to dialogue with the contemporary world. Her icons are not only works of art, but instruments of contemplation that invite deep reflection, capable of bringing the sacred into everyday life.

In an era dominated by abstraction and experimental art, the sacred icon emerges today as a transgressive and surprising work. Despite its antiquity, the icon fits in an innovative way even in modern environments , breaking the monotony of spaces dominated by minimalism and contemporary design. In this context, icons take on a subversive power: no longer simple devotional objects, but symbols of a rediscovered spirituality , capable of enriching modern spaces with their light and silence.

The exhibition "Icons: A Timeless Art" is not only a journey through tradition, but also an invitation to rediscover the value of slowness, contemplation and reflection. Patrizia Atzei's works guide us towards a world in which the sacred can still be an integral part of our daily lives, enriching the spaces we inhabit and bringing what goes beyond time and space back to the centre of our attention. During the exhibition, rare and precious specialist books on icons, now out of print, will be presented, coming from the private collection of an expert and passionate icon collector. These volumes constitute a unique heritage for scholars and lovers of sacred art, offering a rare opportunity to deepen their knowledge of iconography and its history.
