Oscar Piastri on McLaren won the Hungarian GP, the 13th round of the Formula 1 world championship, ahead of his teammate, Lando Norris. Third on the podium was Lewis Hamilton, with Mercedes ahead of Charles Leclerc's Ferrari and Max Verstappen's Red Bull. Sixth place for the other Red team driven by Carlos Sainz.
It is the first victory in Formula 1 for the young Australian, to whom Norris handed over the lead in the final laps as per team orders. At the end there were also sparks between Hamilton and Verstappen fighting for third place, with the Dutchman colliding with his rival's Mercedes, risking an accident but losing only one position.
Sergio Perez, seventh with Red Bull, and George Russel with Mercedes, both eliminated yesterday in qualifying in Q1 and therefore started from the rear, also scored behind Sainz's Ferrari. Ninth place for Yuki Tsunoda with the RB and tenth for Lance Stroll with the Aston Martin.
Despite second place in the world rankings, McLaren forced Norris (who took a while to understand and actually initially said on the radio "tell him to come and get me") to be overtaken by Piastri. Evidently not ranking reasons, but due to the non-linear management of the pit stops, which twice required the Englishman to stop early but he was behind the Australian.
