Heinekein invests 73 million euros for the modernization and expansion of the Ichnusa brewery in Assemini. An investment plan carried out with a development agreement with Mise, Invitalia and the Sardinia Region.

The project provides for a State-Region agreement which will participate with a contribution of approximately 14 million euros from the Ministry of Economic Development and 200 thousand euros from the Sardinia Region. The planned interventions include a new refrigeration plant, CO2 storage systems and cooling towers, works that will contribute to improving environmental performance, resulting in a reduction in water and electricity consumption and a reduction in CO2 emissions.

Investment that is an "important piece of our development strategy" as "the interventions will have an improved impact not only on the capacity and production quality of the brewery, but also on the territory in terms of employment, environment and related industries", explains Wietse Mutters , CEO of Heineken Italia.

"The pandemic has eliminated the entire growth of the sector in the last 4 years - he adds -, with this operation Heineken wants to confirm its commitment to Italy and Sardinia in particular, and to be the engine of the recovery of beer and the agri-food economy ".

The objective of the investment, explains a note from Invitalia, is to increase the production and packaging capacity of the Assemini plant, the oldest brewery in Sardinia. The packaging capacity, when fully operational (in 2024), will increase by over 60% compared to today. 25 new employees will also be hired.
