From Udinese to Juventus, but at Cagliari the tension remains very high. Since last night the team has been in training camp again in Asseminello, from where it will leave only this afternoon to leave for Turin. For some, these could be the last days of the Rossoblu adventure, waiting for the transfer market. An adventure that seems to have already ended for Diego Godin and Martin Caceres. The two Uruguayans, in fact, were not on the squad list for the pre-Juventus retreat last night.
The decision
The sports director Capozucca, immediately after the blow against the Friulians, was clear: «We must be ashamed. We understand that someone is no longer worthy of wearing this shirt and I don't want to see their faces anymore. To play for Cagliari you need to have respect for the club and the people. I don't give the names, but you will understand soon ». Fire words in the conference, after a tough battle in the locker room, between the director himself, the coach Mazzarri and some rossoblùs. Tension in the locker room and tension at the exit of the stadium, where the players were harshly challenged by some fans present. Among the few to seek dialogue, two of the most representative rossoblùs, Joao Pedro and Pavoletti.
The showdown
A long technical meeting in the belly of the Domus until late at night, then yesterday morning the resumption of training in Asseminello. The team was informed of the decision to retire, from which Godin and Caceres were excluded. The Pharaoh has long been in the club's sights: after being convinced, in the summer of 2020, with a rich three-year contract worth over 3 million per season, complete with a welcome ceremony at the stadium, Godin was the protagonist of a season between ups and downs. Not exactly the leader that President Giulini was convinced he had found. And so, having closed the year with a sensational salvation, Capozucca himself, in a press conference, had announced his intention to interrupt the relationship with the captain of the Celeste, to get rid of a contract that is no longer sustainable by the club. Mission failed, because Godin refused all the (few) proposals that arrived, presenting himself regularly in Asseminello after the holidays. Seven out of eighteen matches missed due to physical problems and almost always insufficient performances, up to Saturday's match against Udinese, perhaps the worst of his Cagliari experience. The choice to field him from the first minute is still inexplicable. “Purged” also Caceres, who arrived as a free agent on the last day of the summer transfer market, after having failed all attempts in the search for a defender. Even for Caceres few highs and many lows, with the flop on Saturday, when he took over from Carboni in the second half, without ever giving a sign of life. The two Uruguayans, tied to Cagliari by heavy engagements, will be left at home and invited to find accommodation during the January market, "otherwise they will stay out", Capozucca said again.
At risk
Godin, Caceres, but not only. Because the rossoblù are different under observation. Starting with Dalbert, replaced after a disastrous 45 minutes, and Keita himself, impalpable in the latest releases. Attention, then, also to the future of Nandez, one of the few rossoblùs to have a market and who could be allowed to start in front of an adequate offer.
