Mourning in the world of sport. Frank Williams, founder of the famous Formula One team that bears his name, died at the age of 79.

The news was given by the same team.

The team created by Frank Williams in the 1970s won 16 world titles between 1980 and 1997, nine for the constructors and seven for the drivers.

Sacred monster of engines, born in 1942, the English businessman was himself a pilot. He had been in a wheelchair since 1986, following a car accident on the French Riviera.

Many messages of condolence appeared on social media to greet Sir Frank. Among the many, that of Flavio Briatore, former director of the Renault Formula One team: “Today one of the greatest in Formula 1, Sir Frank Williams, left us. I learned a lot from him and over time we became friends, sharing the most beautiful and intense years of Formula One. Hi Frank, we will miss you! ”.
