In Hollywood, the Oscars are being rehearsed, with the prestigious Golden Globes being awarded.
“Emilia Perez” and “The Brutalist” were awarded as the best films of 2024 in their respective categories, musical/comedy and drama . Jacques Audiard’s film – performed in Spanish and the official candidate for France – also won for best film in a non-English language, displacing “Vermiglio” by Maura Delpero, which Italy has chosen to represent at the Oscars.
Also awarded were Zoe Saldana for best supporting actress, and Brady Corbet for directing “The Brutalist” alongside the protagonist Adrian Brody.
If "Vermiglio" has disappointed so far, Luca Guadagnino's "Challengers" won the Golden Globe for best original soundtrack.
Also, “Wicked” was recognized as a box office champion, while “I’m Not There”’s Fernanda Torres surprisingly beat out stars like Angelina Jolie, Tilda Swinton, Kate Winslet and Pamela Anderson for best actress in a drama.
Sebastian Stan took home the Globe for Best Actor in a Musical/Comedy for “A Different Man,” while Demi Moore, at 62, won her first Golden Globe (Best Actress in a Musical/Comedy), receiving widespread applause after admitting that before “The Substance” she thought she had reached the end of the line.
"Flow - A World to Save" finally won as best animated feature film.
Statuettes were also awarded for television. Triumph for “Shogun” (best drama series and three acting awards for Anna Sawai, Hiroyuki Sanada and Tadanobu Asano) and awards also for “Hacks” (Jean Smart and best comedy/musical series), “Baby Reindeer” (best limited series and best actress Jessica Gunning), “The Bear” (Jeremy Allen White) and “The Penguin” (Colin Farrell).
