"On December 27, during the holidays, I felt it was my duty to go to the factory and - in front of the gates of Glencore - I reassured the workers that we would address the dispute with the same determination with which we have addressed and resolved all similar cases in recent months". This was recalled by the Minister of Enterprise and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, during question time in the Chamber of Deputies on initiatives in relation to the situation of the industrial plants in Portovesme, to guarantee production continuity and safeguard jobs in Sulcis.

Urso added that he had indicated on that occasion how " the zinc line is strategic for the country and we are in the field to guarantee its continuity . In recent days I have ascertained that there is interest from other primary operators in the sector. And, at the same time, we are monitoring the situation at European level on the strategic lithium project of Glencore itself, with the overall objective of guaranteeing employment levels. We will report on this at the table that I have called for next February 5th".

As for Sider Alloys , Urso added, "we are coordinating the last phase of the financial process with the banks for the necessary economic support to relaunch the industrial project that has been at a standstill for seven years. We will be able to do what others have failed to do and we will report on it at the table that I have called for January 30."

On Eurallumina , another Sulcis industry, «we are waiting for the Region's plan on the island's energy supply, which is vital for the company and in general for the industrial development of Sardinia. We must take into account that at present the assets are still frozen given that just today the Council of State in a precautionary session suspended the ruling of the Lazio Regional Administrative Court that went in the opposite direction. If the energy plan is unblocked we will be able to outline a solution at the table that I have already called for next January 20. For these reasons I have a preliminary meeting with the Region on Friday, in the spirit that has always distinguished me of full and loyal institutional collaboration. We are dealing with Sulcis cases with the same attention and determination with which we resolved the Sanac crisis as I assured the workers themselves when I visited the factory on February 6 last year».

Now "we are in the process of assigning the entire company complex to a large international player, as is also happening with the former Ilva plants that were placed under special administration on February 27. Not even a year has passed and we are already assigning the plants to another large industrial player. In just a few months, a historic turning point that relaunches the centrality of the Italian steel industry after more than a decade of crisis ."
