The Italian champion Filippo Zana (Team Jayco) won the 18th stage of the Giro d'Italia (161 from Oderzo to Val di Zoldo) beating the Frenchman Thibaut Pinot, his breakaway partner, in the uphill sprint.

The Welshman Geraint Thomas , who crossed the finish line today together with the Slovenian Primoz Roglic (his direct rival in the standings) 1'55" behind Zana, retains the leader's pink jersey.

Tomorrow the perhaps decisive stage of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo.
