Gigi Riva's latest trophy, top scorer of the "virtual" championship
A few months before his death, the journalist Roberto Valentino gave him the cup he had won... on the computer and made this interview at Rombo di Tuono's house, which has remained unpublished. Until todayFifty-five years ago the real championship, a few years ago the…virtual one. The idea is by Roberto Valentino, an eclectic artist (journalist, impersonator, singer…) to whom Morgongiori's mother transmitted the passion for Sardinia and Cagliari.
By setting up a video game (Pro Evolution Soccer), Valentino made the computer play the 1969-70 championship (as well as the 1971-72 championship and the 1970-71 Champions Cup) and in this case too, Cagliari won. Not only that, Gigi Riva was also the top scorer.
So, after having created the trophies of these successes (there is also the Champions Cup, won in the final against Panathinaikos, since Riva was not injured…), Valentino arrived in Cagliari from Lombardy in the winter of 2023 to deliver it directly to Gigi Riva and also conducted this interview with him, one of the last, which he wanted to share with L'Unione Sarda, on the day of the 55th anniversary of Cagliari's Scudetto.
