He is now the champion of the student jockeys who run in England. Like Frankie Dettori in 1989. Marco Ghiani will be crowned on Saturday in Ascot winner of the Apprentice Jockeys Championship All Weathers of flat racing. In the competition that began on May 1st, the advantage of the twenty-two year old jockey from Silì is now unbridgeable: he has 51 victories, 16 more than the second, or better than the second since it is Saffie Osborne. And for the third step of the podium another Sardinian jockey pupil is fighting, Stefano Cherchi, a 20-year-old from Sassari, who plays it in a thrilling head-to-head with Thore Hammer Hansen.
It is not an exaggeration to compare Marco "Linus" Ghiani to the King, Frankie Dettori, also because the jockey who emigrated to the homeland of the English thoroughbred has achieved 80 wins and 157 placings this season (only some races were valid for the Apprentice Championship) exceeding one million pounds won.
Not even the bad fall from the horse in August stopped him. Nine days after the slight injury Ghiani won a group 3 race in York.
