He is Sardinian, and precisely from Dorgali, one of the nine young winemakers who represented Italy in the "Vini Generazione Z" initiative promoted in the Casa Coldiretti pavilion of Vinitaly, where Vermentino was also the protagonist, a wine that sees Sardinia as a leader in production together with cannonau.
Gabriele Fronteddu, 18 years old from the Ziu Andria winery, together with 8 other colleagues under 25 from Emilia Romagna, Lombardy, Marche, Lazio, Campania, Basilicata, Sicily, presented his cannonau doc in front of a delegation of journalists and buyers accompanied by ICE / Vinitaly.
"Once again Coldiretti enhances young farmers by opening international showcases for a generation, that of us farmers under 35, who are taking up important spaces by innovating the sector with multifunctional and sustainable activities" explains the regional delegate of the Young Coldiretti Frediano Mura "The wine sector, which is also distinguishing itself in Sardinia for its dynamism and innovation, is particularly fruitful for young people, and in fact, according to an analysis by Coldiretti, 1 farmer under 35 out of 10 (in Italy) has a vineyard".
The Italian wine sector in 2021 recorded a historic record for wine exports which recorded a jump of 12% in value (for 7.1 billion).
And overall, according to the Coldiretti analysis based on Iri Infoscan Census data, the last year recorded a 2.1% increase in the value of wine sales in large-scale distribution: sparkling wines were the main drivers, who achieved a leap in 20% compared to the same period of the previous year.
The special top ten, which emerged from Coldiretti's analysis of Infoscan Census data for the year ending January 2022, released on the occasion of Vinitaly, highlights that in times of pandemic and international tensions, wine consumption rewards products linked to the territory. The ranking of the top ten wines, in fact, is made up of only made in Italy. And among these the Vermentino di Sardegna stands out, which in 2021 recorded an increase in sales of 22%.
