Francesca Spanu in Éntula, with the new finale of "Inside the Bag"
The literary festival returns to the capital with Michela Capone in conversation with the author

Female solidarity, freedom of choice, and society's judgment are at the heart of a novel that today finds a different epilogue: we are talking about " Dentro la borsa ," Francesca Spanu 's debut novel, which, seven years after its release, is back in bookstores in a new edition published by Il Maestrale , in a revised version and including a new ending . The text, available since September 30th , will be presented on Thursday, October 1st at the Fondazione di Sardegna in Cagliari , in Via San Salvatore da Horta , with the author in conversation with magistrate Michela Capone for a new event of the Éntula festival.
The event, organized with the support of the Municipality and in collaboration with the Feltrinelli bookstore in the capital, will therefore be a moment of reflection on the highly topical and equally concrete themes that run through "Inside the Bag," in the story of the unlikely "sisterhood" between two very different women , brought together by fate . The protagonist is Cristina , a young gynecology and obstetrics specialist, a conscientious objector with a worldview made of rigid boundaries based on the unshakeable certainties of a respectable family— a "bag" that, however, conceals a tangle of tangles . These tangles are revealed once Lidia , a forty-year-old professional, bursts into her life and makes the painful but lucid decision to terminate an unexpected pregnancy. This meeting, which occurred under dire auspices, will, however, become a miraculous source of radical change in Cristina's perspective , as she finds in Lidia the support she needs to avoid drowning in the storms of life and the sea of her prejudices.
In her latest release, the author picks up the thematic thread of the work to reopen the protagonist's story , thus returning to reflect on the themes of friendship and solidarity between women, individual freedom of choice, and the oppressive weight of social judgment. Spanu , born in 1976 in San Gavino Monreale—where she has directed the Monreale Literary Festival since 2019—now lives between her hometown and the capital, working as a lawyer and legal consultant at the Feminas anti-violence center. After her literary debut in 2019, she returned last year with " The Wrong Body " (Il Maestrale), which focuses on the stigmatization of overweight bodies.
Organised by the cultural association Lìberos , the widespread literary festival Éntula continues its journey this year with the support of the Region and the Fondazione di Sardegna .
