Fiorentina has requested clarification from the Lega Calcio regarding the refereeing incidents that affected yesterday's 3-1 defeat at the Franchi against Como.
Under scrutiny was the foul on Goncalves, which was neither detected by referee Di Bello nor called by VAR (Paterna with Avar Pezzuto) at the start of the move that resulted in Liberali's goal for the Lombardy club. This also led to the disallowing of a potential 2-2 goal by Pongracic due to an alleged millimetric offside by the Viola defender. Furthermore, on that occasion, the analysis of the play lasted over four minutes due to a blackout in the semi-automatic system, specifically the SOAT (semi-automated offside technology) designed to identify offsides. The images for yesterday's incident and the resulting refereeing decision were apparently captured using the old method, using images that, according to the Viola club, were not clear enough to warrant disallowing Pongracic's goal.
The Viola—this is the leaked message—aren't looking for excuses to justify yesterday's defeat or their difficult start to the season (the team is second to last with just four points, the result of five defeats in seven games and 17 goals conceded despite significant summer transfer investment). Instead, they wanted to express their position and request explanations, hoping "they are valid and satisfactory." This is also because yesterday's match wasn't the only one in which Fiorentina was penalized by refereeing decisions that also sparked protests from their fans.
