Festa del Redentore, Sardinian folklore protagonist in Nuoro

After two years of restrictions related to the pandemic, the Festa del Redentore returns to Nuoro, now in its 122nd edition: from 27 to 29 August it will offer folklore, tradition and religious ceremonies to citizens and tourists.

The event, financed by the Region and the Sardinia Foundation, will open on Saturday 27 at 19 with the parade of popular masks and will end on Monday 29 with the pilgrimage to Mount Ortobene and the solemn mass.

The festival, which unites the sacred and the profane, sees the highest moment on Sunday 28 August with the parade of 53 groups and over 2 thousand figures in traditional costume through the streets of the city center. The knights and the blessing of the bishop of Nuoro , Monsignor Antonello Mura, will close at noon.

The evening will continue at 8 pm at the Frogheri stadium with the regional Folklore Festival in which the groups of Nuoro, canti a tenores and dance groups from all over Sardinia will perform. Closing on 29 August with the religious pilgrimage to Monte Ortobene and with the evening at the Elysée, where the singer Alice will give life to a concert on the music of Franco Battiato.

"This year we have a festival in attendance again, aware of how much this event has been missing in these two very long years - underlines the councilor for Culture of the Municipality of Nuoro Luigi Crisponi in the presentation press conference - The pandemic has also left its mark in folklore if we think that some historical groups will be absent from the event because in the meantime they have fallen apart. The organization was tiring: the time of Covid is not over, but we are satisfied because the city of Nuoro is there and still qualifies as hub of tourist and cultural attraction that in the three days of the festival will be able to welcome thousands of visitors ".

"Around the main program of the Festival, there will be a range of cultural, folkloristic, recreational and sporting events to meet the needs of all audiences - explains Mayor Andrea Soddu - With the celebrations of the Redeemer the celebrations for the 150th anniversary will close. year of birth of the Nobel laureate writer Grazia Deledda. But it will not be a definitive closure: we will ask the future government that the Committee born for this anniversary remains standing for the celebrations of the century in 2026, from the year of the Nobel Prize ".
