His voice had gone around the world with the song that has become a real hymn of the smooth, “Romagna mia”, and now the many fans of the genre have to say goodbye to Edgardo Gelli. The 87-year-old musician was hit by an SUV in Fermignano (Pesaro and Urbino) while crossing the street.
The incident occurred yesterday. The ambulance arrived immediately and transported Gelli to the hospital in Urbino. The death occurred a few hours later.
Originally from Corniolo di Santa Sofia (Forlì-Cesena), he had lived in Fermignano for some time after being widowed. In his career he sang the smooth in half the world after making his debut as a saxophonist in the Casadei orchestra.
