Alessandro De Santis, the actor with Down syndrome who had played Lillo in the film with Roberto Benigni “Johnny Stecchino”, died at the age of 50. The funeral will be celebrated tomorrow in Rome.

In one of the most talked about scenes - so much so as to undergo a sort of censorship in the United States - Benigni in the role of Dante offered Lillo cocaine, as a cure for diabetes.

The film, based on a series of misconceptions, was released in 1991.
