Gianmario Fancello, 28 year old Nuorese judoka, received the tribute yesterday in the Town Hall after the victory in Ostia. On 24 April the athlete of the Gigliotti sports club achieved the title of Italian champion in the 55 kg category of Fisdir judo (Paralympic Sports Federation), the first Sardinian ever to compete and win at these levels. He was welcomed by the mayor Andrea Soddu and the councilor Fabrizio Beccu, together with the coach Giovanni Andrea Gigliotti and the regional manager of Fisdir Carmen Mura. They gave him the parchment and a book on Monte Ortobene.

«I am happy and I thank my family, Giovanni my coach and all my teammates - said the judoka -. It was an incredible adventure, I would like to make the parents of children with disabilities understand that we must not give up or give up on sport and that commitment and effort are needed to have such great results. I dedicate the victory to those who believed in me and supported me, to those who dream of making my journey, to my coach, to my mother, to my brother Patrick, but the medals are mine alone. I want to continue training to keep the title and improve further ». Now he will continue training pending a probable call-up to the national team.
