An allocation of 5.4 million euros was approved by the budget commission of the European Parliament to go to support 801 workers in the air transport and logistics sector in Sardinia who have lost their jobs due to the pandemic. The instrument used is the European Globalization Adjustment Fund for redundant workers.

41 votes in favor expressed on the proposal, no against and no abstentions.

In detail, 3.8 million euros are destined for the Sardinian workers of Air Italy while almost 1.5 will go to support the workers of the Cagliari canal port.

Approving the requests for support, the MEPs reiterated how "the social impacts of the redundancies have been considerable for the Sardinian economy, which has also been significantly affected by the Covid-19 crisis and where the number of employees has decreased by 4, 6% in 2020 compared to a drop of 2.0% in Italy as a whole ". The aid is now expected to be definitively approved by the Strasbourg assembly next week.
