“Succession” by Hbo best drama series and “Ted Lasso” by Apple TV best comedy series.
This is the verdict of the 2022 Emmys broadcast from Los Angeles which awarded the satire "White Lotus" the award for the best miniseries. The South Koreans of "Squid Game" have made history, however: Netflix's dystopian drama that exploded last year as a global maxi-hit brought home the award for best dramatic actor, Lee Jung-jae, who became the first to act in a language that he was not the recognized Englishman in that category, while Hwang Dong-hyuk won the Emmy for directing the episode "Red Light, Green Light".
The Netflix series made it to the final with 14 nominations - a record for a non-English series.
The "Succession" Emmy was the second in three years after the 2021 hiatus. Jesse Armstrong, the creator of the show about a dysfunctional family of billionaires loosely based on Murdoch, won for best screenplay for the episode "All the Bells. Say ”set on Lake Como and in Tuscany, while Matthew MacFadyen took home the statuette for the best supporting actor. The Emmy for Best Drama Series is the most prestigious of the night considered the equivalent of the Oscars for television, and HBO has won it six times in the past eight years.
Hbo's victories were counterbalanced by the second consecutive Emmy for “Ted Lasso”, best comic series, also awarded with Jason Sudeikis in the role of the coach with a heart of gold and Brett Goldstein in that of the former football player with an easy swear word.
