“Distant echoes” stops: goodbye or goodbye?

" Echi distant ", the festival dedicated to ancient music , a point of reference for many enthusiasts, has stopped . On social networks, the announcement of Giuliana Abis , the president of the cultural association which has always been the soul of the review in Cagliari.
«Dear friends, you have followed us with affection for a long time and, surely, many of you are waiting to find out what "Distant Echoes" will hold in 2023. With great regret, but just as much determination, I announce that "Distant Echoes" for this year it will not propose the annual concert review».
Cagliari misses an essential appointment, the rare opportunity to discover, in evocative places of the city, a world of notes that has never had great limelight. The festival is a creature of Giuliana Abis and Ferruccio Garau who until 2018, the year of their death, dedicated themselves with great conviction to this cultural project. With their energy and competence, thanks to a group of precious collaborators, they have made the review grow by directing the gaze, in each edition, towards the best musical groups engaged in the enhancement of ancient notes and glorious instruments.
THE COMMITMENT – «I have dedicated, with commitment and devotion to early music, 38 years of my existence - writes Abis - from 1985 with the previous organization and from 1995 with "Echi distant", alongside Ferruccio in his project to disseminate and promote ancient music and dance, sharing his desire to raise awareness of little-known or little-performed music, the marvel of little-known ancient instruments and repertoires rarely present in traditional circuits. I feel that the time has come, for me, for a break, I don't know if "Distant Echoes" will have a future, for now it stops».
GREETINGS – Dario Luisi, the artistic director, also intervened: «Distant echoes represented for me and I think also for all my travel companions of the last twenty years (including more than ten of artistic direction) a beautiful dream that has allowed many beautiful people, many good musicians and wonderful professionals to meet, get to know each other and produce themselves in countless days full of music and art, days that I hope will remain forever in our memories, everyone's memories, as if they were precisely "echoes far away” of joyful and passionate memories. If it's just a break I hope for a future meeting, in any case it was a gift that we will never forget ».
Giuliana Abis greets and thanks the festival audience: «I am happy with the beautiful memories, the beautiful music and the beautiful emotions that Echi has given us all. I will not forget your faces, the joy of welcoming you and meeting each other at each concert, the comments, the thanks, the affectionate greeting at the end of the evening and the joyful goodbye every year at the end of the show».
