Dinamo paradox, out of the playoffs despite victories over the big teams
The Sassari team pays for the defeats against opponents of its levelPer restare aggiornato entra nel nostro canale Whatsapp
The potential to make the playoffs was there, but the distractions against Pesaro and Varese cost them dearly. As in 2018, Dinamo remained out of the playoffs due to the different rankings which saw them penalized in head-to-head matches, in this case against Trento and Napoli, teams they have never managed to beat. And he finished with 28 points in tenth place, for the first time since he joined Serie A without at least breaking even between wins and losses.
The paradox is that among the teams occupying fifth to ninth position, Sassari is the only one to have beaten all the four big teams at least once. Indeed all five, because not only was Virtus able to defeat Bologna, Milan, Brescia and Venice, but also Reggio Emilia 95-63 in the season's farewell match at PalaSerradimigni.
Just one more victory against opponents of their own level would have been enough to compete in the play-offs for the scudetto. Of course, finishing in seventh or eighth place means facing Milan and Virtus Bologna, who no longer have the Euroleague involved and can fully unleash their potential. However, it would have been a feat after having feared until February of being involved in the fight not to be relegated which saw the goodbye of two historic clubs such as Pesaro and Brindisi.
