For the death of Davide Astori, the Florence Court of Appeal confirmed the one-year prison sentence, imposed at first instance on 2 April 2021, on Professor Giorgio Galanti, former director of Sports Medicine at Careggi and a former sports consultant of Fiorentina, accused of manslaughter.

The Fiorentina and former Cagliari player was found lifeless on the morning of March 4, 2018 in his hotel room in Udine, where he was with the team.

According to the prosecution, the death was caused by arrhythmogenic ventricular cardiomyopathy, a pathology that was not diagnosed. Galanti issued two competitive fitness certificates to the player.
