Winter is upon us and the war in Ukraine and the cutting of gas from Russia also pose a series of problems for Italy, from gas reserves to off-market prices for methane: from 20 euros, pre-war, to over 300 megawatt hours .

While waiting for a decision to be made to calm prices, precisely to contain consumption and save energy , the Government aims to ration gas using less heating: postponing the ignition of the radiators by a week and anticipating their shutdown in homes and offices another 7 days.

Days and times vary from region to region and from municipality to municipality, depending on the climatic zone to which they belong. As for the temperature on the thermostats , today the law provides for a maximum of 20 degrees which could become 19. Finally , the duration : the system will have to be kept on one hour less a day.

Most of the Sardinian municipalities fall into band C (radiators turned on 10 hours a day from November 15th to March 31st) and D (12 hours from November 1st to April 15th). Few are those in band B (8 hours from 1 December to 31 March) and even fewer in band F, the mountain people (14 hours a day from 15 October to 15 April). This year, however, the state can change times and duration.

“Although Italy has stored a lot of gas this is needed by our industries. Now, the 'cut' in the use of heaters is a restricted action aimed precisely at guaranteeing a constant contribution to companies in the coldest winter period ", says Alfonso Damiano, professor at the University of Cagliari who has been dealing with of energy and renewable sources.
