He was the "blond" of the legendary couple of the seventies, Starsky & Hutch. David Soul, pseudonym of David Richard Solberg, American actor and singer-songwriter made famous by the very popular detective series, paired with Paul Michael Glaser, has died at the age of 80.

The artist was originally from Chicago, and had been ill for some time.

The news was given by his fifth wife, the English Helen Snell, a public relations expert with whom he had moved to Great Britain some time ago.

“David Soul, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, died yesterday after courageously fighting with his beloved family at his side,” reads a note reported by the media.

Soul played the role of Kenneth “Hutch” Hutchinson, the blond detective who with his dark-haired, curly-haired colleague David Starsky hunted down criminals aboard the red Ford Gran Torino custom-built car (code Zebra 3) made unmistakable by the eye-catching white side stripes.
