Michele Usai, 38, from Cagliari, has established himself as one of the leading Italian and international athletes in deep-sea freshwater freediving.

Already world champion in 2025, he is the current holder of the CMAS world record in the CNF constant weight without equipment (breaststroke) discipline for having reached a depth of - 67 metres in fresh water.

On Sunday, during the Italian Outdoor Freediving Championships in Riva del Garda in the province of Trento, Usai won the title of Italian champion in the Free Immersion FIM discipline (free immersion) by diving to a depth of 80 meters (approved depth of minus 68 meters).

Thanks to the results achieved this season he has been called up to the Italian CMAS national team for the 2026 outdoor world championships which will take place in Roatan, Honduras from August 14th to 27th.

Three women and one man: Mara Guida, Linda Paganelli, Alessia Zecchini, and Michele Usai. They will be accompanied by the national team's technical director, Michele Tomasi, who will also serve as delegation leader for the occasion.
