Cagliari, via Liverani: Ranieri the strong name for the succession

Fabio Liverani has been sacked . In the end, the line of waiting to the bitter end did not win. Cagliari has decided not to stall any longer, also because the shock that never came. And December 26, for the coach chosen in June with the aim of bringing the team back to Serie A, is no longer the deadline of an adventure that never really took off, not even in terms of ties with the fans, as underlined two Sundays ago from the dispute by the whole Domus on the occasion of the match won against Perugia.
The Roman coach, former captain of the Rossoblù Primavera at the dawn of a more than fruitful career with the shirts of Palermo, Lazio and Fiorentina, will not be on the bench against Cosenza at the Domus on Boxing Day.
Who will be there? Surprise, but not too much. At least that's how it seems. In pole position is Claudio Ranieri, the name capable of making everyone agree, with whom the club in via Mameli has been in contact for some time. In the background all the other coaches still free: from Iachini to Ballardini, up to D'Aversa and Lopez.
But Ranieri is the most suggestive hypothesis : the return of the coach who, between the end of the 1980s and the beginning of the 1990s brought Cagliari back from Serie C to Serie A, would be a romantic choice, that the coach from Trastevere he was already promised in 1991, when he left the island to go and coach Naples.
Not only was the defeat in Palermo fatal to Liverani, mind you: the alarm bells were already ringing in the club, despite the strenuous defense of the coach and his work , right from the internal defeats against Bari and Venice, which – done – they negatively directed the path of the rossoblùs. The reverses with Ascoli and - above all - with Ternana, prompted the board to reflect deeply also on the effective strength of a team, given as favorites on the eve and, instead, slipped to the threshold of the playout area.
Waiting for official communications, we just have to wait. Also the indications that the new coach will give to diesse Nereo Bonato on the transfer campaign to reinforce a team that is perpetually in limbo .
