«That's all folks!» With these words Gianluigi Buffon confirmed the news of his retirement , already in the air for days. The goalkeeper, one of the greatest in football history, leaves at the age of 45 after twenty-eight seasons as a professional, during which he became the most successful player in the history of Italian football and the player with the most caps in the history of the national team.

A very long career, which began with the Parma shirt and ended with the same colours: the last match of his career was played in Cagliari, at the Unipol Domus, in the semi-final first leg of the Serie B playoffs . On that occasion Buffon only played the first 45 minutes, before stopping due to an injury: at the moment of his exit from the field of play, when he made way for the second Chichizola, the Emilians led by 2-0. Then, in the final, Luvumbo let loose, who dragged Cagliari to a comeback with a brace and a penalty obtained.

In the return, at the Tardini, "Gigi" did not take the field, and watched the 0-0 draw from the sidelines. The match ended in her tears . Who knows if, hitting Serie A, Buffon would have changed his mind. In the summer there was also talk of proposals from Arabia, but in the end the goalkeeper decided to end it here.

"You gave me everything, I gave you everything, we did it together" , added the number one in his post on social media.
