Beijing, many good placings but no podiums for Italy
Some disappointments and some nice surprises, but no medals for our colors
Many good placings but no medal for Italy today since the Beijing Olympics. In the men's 500-meter short track Pietro Sighel, a young promise, comes fifth: he passes the quarterfinals and semifinals splendidly, in the final he starts from the wide lane and in an attempt to recover to reach a place on the podium he falls on the last lap.
The final goes to the Hungarian, of Chinese mother, Shaoang Liu. The silver to the Russian Konstantin Ivliev, the bronze to the Canadian Steven Dubois.
Still in the short track, women's 3,000-meter relay, Italy led by champion Arianna Fontana won the final B, thus finishing fifth in a race dominated by the Dutch.
Good placings but unfortunately no podiums in biathlon. Dorothea Wierer is only sixth in the women's pursuit, who has already won a bronze in this Olympic expedition. The blue made us dream by staying in the podium area for half the race, but then the errors from the polygon made her slip.
Race won by the relentless Norwegian Roiseland, ahead of the Swedish Oeberg and the other Norwegian Eckhoff, for an all-Scandinavian podium.
In the men's pursuit, on the other hand, Hofer's performance is amazing, placing a 20 out of 20 shooting and recovering from 12th starting place to fourth, closing the race at the foot of the podium. Gold went to French Fillon Maillet, ahead of Norwegian Boe and Russian Latypov.
De Aliprandini disappoints in the giant, who closes the first heat in sixth place and falls in the very first doors of the second. Gold went to the Swiss Marco Odermatt, then the Slovenian Zan Kranjec and the French Mathieu Faivre.
The medal table sees Italy in eleventh position with 11 podiums: 2 golds, 5 silvers and 4 bronzes. Dominates Norway with 9 golds, 5 silvers and 7 bronzes ahead of Germany, the Netherlands, the USA and Sweden.
