The Italian coach Gianmarco Pozzecco confirms his confidence in the Sassari playmaker Marco Spissu and the Olbiese winger Gigi Datome .

The two Sardinian players are among the 17 called up to the national team for the training camp which will take place from 3 to 10 August in Pinzolo in Val Rendena. The meeting will serve to prepare the two qualifying matches for the 2023 World Cup (24 and 27 August) and the 2022 EuroBasket which will be played from 1 to 18 September (Azzurro group in Milan from 2 to 8 September).

Two other former Dinamo players have also been called up, the Tessitori center and the Polonara alapivot.

Compared to the team that beat the Netherlands on 4 July, Danilo Gallinari and Nicolò Melli, Nico Mannion, Gabriele Procida and Matteo Spagnolo are back.
After the training camp in Trentino, the team will move to Bologna to face France in the first summer friendly (Friday 12 August, Unipol Arena at 20.30). Then the trip to Montpellier to return the visit to the French and the trip to the Hamburg tournament (semi-final against Serbia on August 19 and closing match against Germany or the Czech Republic on August 20).
Before the debut at the EuroBasket, away match against Ukraine (venue to be defined) on 24 August and home match against Georgia on 27 August at the PalaLeonessa in Brescia.
