"If Sardinia appeals against the law, the Government does not need defense lawyers, it will defend itself before the Constitutional Court, but Veneto thinks it is absolutely damaged by an appeal that would prevent us from starting a path to Autonomy. Therefore, we will appear before the Constitutional Court to oppose Sardinia's appeal".

This is what the President of Veneto, Luca Zaia, said, commenting on the announcement by the Sardinia Region to appeal against the application of the Calderoli law.

"It is a region with a special statute - observes Zaia - that does not lose anything from the application of the Calderoli law. It is not yet clear what damage it could do to the Sardinia Region, given that there is no damage".

"We respect the appeals, we are close to the Sardinian people," continues the president of Veneto. " I have always fought to have autonomies defended, because they are a bulwark of freedom. A region like Sardinia also experiences the issues of insularity, of poor connections. I am truly convinced that autonomy is needed for this Region. What is certain is that Veneto thinks it is absolutely damaged by the fact that someone can appeal to a law that would allow us to start an autonomy project." "Their freedom," concludes the governor, "ends where ours begins; and we want our freedom to be respected. This is why we will present ourselves to the Consulta."
