Lorenzo Sonego's dream of a first semi-final at the Australian Open tennis tournament fades away.

The Italian, ATP number 55, lost in the quarter-finals to the American Ben Shelton, number 20 in the ranking and 21st seed, in four sets with the score of 6-4, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6.

Shelton now awaits the winner of the other quarter-final being played today in Melbourne between world No. 1 Jannik Sinner, the defending champion, and Australian Alex De Minaur, No. 8 in the ranking and seeding.
