Jannik Sinner has qualified for the third round of the Australian Open after beating Australian Tristan Schoolkate – who had received a wild card for the tournament – 4-6, 6-4, 6-1, 6-3 in around two hours and 45 minutes.
Now the South Tyrolean will have to challenge the American Marcos Giron, who got the better of the Argentine Tomas Etcheverry. For Sinner it is the 16th consecutive victory between the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025, even if he was forced to come back after Schoolkate took a set from him, interrupting a streak of 29 consecutive sets won.
The last set he lost was at the Shanghai Masters 1000. With this victory, Sinner reaches the third round for the fourth time in Melbourne, where last year he won his first Slam title, followed by the victory at the US Open.
