Matteo Berrettini qualifies for the round of 16 of the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of 2022 (prize money of 54.2 million dollars) underway on the Melbourne Park hardcourt.

The 25-year-old Roman tennis player, number 7 in the ATP rankings and the draw, beat the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, n.31 in the ranking and seeding, in the third round in five sets, with a score of 6-2 7-6 (3) 4 -6 2-6 7-6 (10-5), gained after a battle of 4 hours and 10 minutes and in which Berrettini also remedied a sprained ankle.

"I just thought about fighting at every point. I'm very happy. Carlos is incredible, at his age I didn't even have ATP points", the exhausted Italian tennis player commented.

For a place in the quarters, the blue will challenge another Spaniard, Carreno-Busta, who won against the American Korda.
