Of the three Sardinian airports, Olbia airport is the one with the lowest number of flights in territorial continuity .

This was denounced by Elisabetta Manca , of the regional secretariat of Uiltrasporti Sardegna, who underlines how there are « only two daily flights arriving and departing for Milan Linate , with a 12-hour gap between one flight and another. Furthermore, flights operated by Ita at inconvenient times which make it impossible for those departing from the Gallura airport to go and return within the day, forcing those who travel for medical visits or those who have another connecting flight from another airport or have to anticipate the departure, considerably increasing the inconvenience and travel costs».

"Added to this unfortunate situation is the lack of additional flights during the Christmas period , with a serious disparity between the north and south of the island - continues the trade unionist -. The additional flights, in fact, have been scheduled by Ita only for the days of 22 and 23 December, while Volotea will not operate any additional flights. The offices of the Department of Transport justify this decision through the so-called load coefficient, according to them lower than 91% and the exceeding of which determines, as foreseen by the notice, the increase or not of the flights".

«Out of 172 flights operated by Ita from November to mid-December at the Costa Smeralda airport - he concludes - 52% had a load factor greater than 90% while 15% of the flights flew at full load, therefore with a coefficient of 100% , and this despite the times, as already mentioned and reiterated, are absolutely not advantageous for those who have to reach the Lombard capital or vice versa have to return to Sardinia. We would also like to remind you that, in addition to the serious inconvenience to the detriment of the right to mobility, the lack of flights also has repercussions on the workers of the Gallura airport , mostly hired with vertical part-time contracts and who, unfortunately, in the absence of flights, see vanish any possibility of working in the winter period».
