Fractures have a high risk factor for the life of the elderly . This is because the trauma suffered from the fall triggers a mechanism that favors complications which, in the long run, increase morbidity until the individual's years of survival are reduced.
The factors that affect are different, first of all the type of fracture: if it is severe, such as those in the femur and vertebrae, it is necessary to undergo surgery , then to a hospital stay, an immediate rehabilitation period and then a period longer in a rehabilitation institution. All elements that weaken the body and mind of the elderly.
It is possible to minimize these complications by adopting small precautions such as knowing the state of osteoporosis, so as to start therapeutic interventions through drugs, take care of nutrition and last but not least, practice physical activity to keep the skeletal structure in good health.
The talk "15 minutes with ..." is edited by Aou Cagliari News, the newspaper of the university hospital. Agile and simple format, it provides 15 minutes of question and answer with the specialists and the possibility for the public to ask questions live.
