The Sardinia Region's plan for the elimination of asbestos continues.

After the more than 35 million obtained by the state, which will guarantee the safety of the schools on the island, the council has made available to local authorities another 3 million euros for reclamation interventions in the buildings.

In fact, the ok has arrived for the resolution that grants the provincial administrations and the Metropolitan City of Cagliari financial resources to attribute contributions to private individuals for the removal of artefacts containing asbestos, according to the "Regional plan for the protection, decontamination, disposal and reclamation of the environment for the purposes of defense against the dangers deriving from asbestos ".

The removal of asbestos from public structures has already been financed with 1,767,099 euros (FSC resources 2014-2020 - Sardinia Pact) and by a further funding of 35,175,285 euros (FSC resources 2014-2020 - Environment operating plan) for interventions removal and disposal of asbestos from public buildings (schools and hospitals).

"The regional plan, in addition to ensuring the health of Sardinians, aims to guarantee conditions of environmental health and safety in the workplace, to define methods and times for the reclamation and disposal of materials containing asbestos, the methods of managing waste deriving from remediation operations. Among the innovations introduced in the criteria for assigning contributions, in order to overcome the critical issues deriving from the excessively limited threshold, the maximum contribution has been raised from 5 thousand to 15 thousand euros and, since many interventions have not been carried out due to the lack of resources for the reconstruction and restoration of the structures, the costs for the construction of replacement artifacts, following the removal of asbestos, are allowed to contribute up to a maximum of 30%, provided that they are carried out in compliance with environmental criteria The contribution received will be able to cover 60% of the eligible expenses and will have to focus on priority the costs for the removal, encapsulation of materials containing asbestos, transport and disposal in authorized plants ", declared the regional councilor for the defense of the environment, Gianni Lampis.

The 3 million euros were divided as follows: Province of Southern Sardinia 807,960 euros (1,001 interventions); Metropolitan city of Cagliari 772.738 (777); Province of Sassari 707,335 (525); Province of Oristano 430,846 (589); Province of Nuoro 281.121 (186).
