The suggestions of the ancient district under the dark sky, materialized in evocative shots to the notes of the most famous nocturnes of classical music: " Notturno " by Antonio Loi inaugurates the new exhibition season of the Galleria Siotto in Cagliari , a photographic exhibition curated by Alice Deledda which will remain open until October 25th in via dei Genovesi 114 , from Thursday to Sunday from 6pm to 8pm and with free admission .
With the summer break officially ending with the opening of "Notturno" today at 6 pm , the exhibition presents fifteen photographs taken thirty years ago , in a Cagliari very different from today, but among the alleys of a historic neighborhood that still today hides much of the capital that once was. The project was conceived during a late stroll in Castello , in a casual – yet almost natural – mingling of the depths of darkness with Chopin's nocturnal atmospheres : which became the ideal soundtrack for a journey of shots among the old buildings and the streetlights , undertaken by a "photographer attracted by the man-made landscape", as the curator Loi defines him.
A visual exploration that moves without limits across the urban fabric, from the center to the outskirts, a creative hotbed for exploring the most ancestral, grotesque, and peculiar aspects of the capital , best captured through its contingent and transitory elements. And it strikes a chord with the author, as Castello is the neighborhood he has been attached to since childhood and continues to frequent today: he expresses concern about its major transformations, not always positive . Born in 1948 in Cagliari, Antonio Loi began defining his own photographic style in the early 1970s, a path he cultivated alongside his teaching of visual arts at the city's art high school. His first solo exhibitions were held at the Galleria Photo 13, the first space in the city dedicated entirely to photography.
