The spring section of the “Teatro Senza Quartiere” season, at the Teatro del Segno in Cagliari, opens with stories and music.
On stage tonight, Saturday 15 March, at 8.30pm and tomorrow at 7.30pm, at the TsE in Via Quintino Sella in Cagliari, the splendid voice of Manul, stage name of Manuela Loi, with the Soul Band in the play “Io e Amy, quello che vorrei detto a Amy Winehouse”.
Written and conceived by Paolo Putzu, performed by Stefano Ledda, who also signs the adaptation and direction, and with live music proposed by the group composed of Virgilio Atzori on bass, Pierpaolo Cardia on piano, Melania Lai and Chiara Faedda on backing vocals, to accompany the talented singer from Cagliari, the show will be enriched by the participation of a special guest of the caliber of Ernesto Lopez Maturell, an eclectic percussionist and drummer of Cuban origin, a virtuoso with an intense career behind him that has seen him protagonist, in addition to the Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio, also in the bands of great interpreters of Italian singer-songwriters such as Laura Pausini, Enrico Rava and Alex Britti.
Director Stefano Ledda availed himself of a large team of collaborators to create a work of great interest characterized by the charismatic vocal versatility of Manul, one of the best interpreters of the various international tribute bands dedicated to the unforgettable and extraordinary Amy Winehouse, who passed away too soon, at only 27 years old, after leaving behind immortal masterpieces.
“Io & Amy” is a tribute to the British singer-songwriter, a bright star who enchanted audiences and critics, quickly reaching the top of the charts: a dazzling meteor who disappeared too quickly, after having set the sky on fire with her music full of energy and passion, bitterness and anger, with those melodies that strike straight to the heart with lucid and ferocious sincerity.
A journey through words and notes with an anthology of songs, most of which are from the album “Back to Black”, released in 2006 by Island Records, which achieved worldwide success and won five Grammy Awards: from “Me and Mr. Jones” to “You Know I'm No Good”, and then “Valerie”, “Rehab”, “Love Is a Losing Game” and the title track “Back to Black”, alongside “Stronger Than Me”, the successful single from “Frank”, the debut album resulting from the collaboration of the artist, still a teenager, with the hip-hop producer Salaam Remi.
The play brings to the stage, through the vivid and passionate flow of memories of Paul, a session drummer, the life and music of the British “Queen” of white soul.
From their first meeting in a London recording studio, to the dramatic epilogue in Amy's flat in Camden Town.
The story is punctuated by the timeless melodies of an extraordinary personality who continues to exercise, more than 10 years after his death, a strong interest on millions of fans around the world.
