This may not have been the announcement Olbia fans were expecting after yesterday's last-minute submission of the necessary documentation for registration in next season's Serie D, but the club announced today that it has appointed Alessandro Giorgi, former director of affiliations, as general manager of the whites.

There's no good news about the squad to be entrusted to Lucas Gatti (who hasn't yet signed), and the season kicks off with the Coppa Italia on August 24th. Today's news is one and only one: Giorgi's promotion. "As part of the management restructuring process, Olbia Calcio 1905 announces the appointment of Alessandro Giorgi as the club's General Manager," the press release states. "Giorgi, with extensive experience in football, business, and consulting, has already proven his worth, proving crucial to the team's registration for the 2025/2026 Serie D championship. In his new role," it continues, "he will work closely with the Board of Directors, which will retain its role as decision-maker and supervisor of all operations. His appointment as General Manager will not, however, prevent him from retaining his position as Director of Affiliations, continuing to manage relationships with affiliated clubs and related support activities."

At this point, the question remains as to what role Manuel Gonzalez, appointed as Olbia's technical director in early June, will play. With the chaos of the last month and a half, culminating in yesterday's dramatic day when the Swiss owners finally managed to pay their players' May salaries and thus complete their application for registration in the 2025/26 Serie D, the former defender has effectively been unable to perform his duties.

Giorgi's promotion had been rumored for days, so much so that, according to rumors, Gonzalez has already resigned from his position.
