Polling stations open for administrative elections in 595 municipalities in regions with ordinary statute. In Sardinia and Sicily, on the other hand, votes are held on 28 and 29 May, in Trentino and Valle d'Aosta on 21.
The polling stations will remain open until 11pm and tomorrow from 7am to 3pm. The counting of ballots will begin immediately afterwards.
A total of 6.3 million Italians will already be able to vote to elect the mayor and renew the councils.
Thirteen provincial capitals (Ancona, the only regional capital, then Brescia, Brindisi, Imperia, Latina, Massa, Pisa, Siena, Sondrio, Teramo, Terni, Treviso and Vicenza). Of these, seven are administered by the centre-right and five by the centre-left. The challenge is particularly heated in Ancona, Brescia, Vicenza and Siena.
The eventual run-off round is scheduled for Sunday 28 and Monday 29 May.
TURNOUT – The final figure for the turnout at 12 is 14.21% , a decrease compared to the previous administrations in which 19.34% had voted in the morning.
