An electoral district for Sardinia alone , detached from Sicily, in the European elections, in order to have a Sardinian representative in the European Parliament and be more incisive on issues such as territorial continuity, taxation and energy.

The national law proposal was presented by the Insularity Commission in the Region, chaired by Michele Cossa dei Riformatori , which aims to modify the 1979 law which had established the Islands constituency for the election of the members of the European Parliament.

The objective is therefore to fill the representation gap : "We will promote - explains Cossa - in the coming days a meeting with Sardinian parliamentarians to illustrate and share with them the national law proposal and continue the collaboration between the Regional Council and Parliament, which is essential for implementation of the principle of insularity ".

The difference between the two electoral bodies, the Sicilian one is three times higher than the Sardinian one, creates "a disproportion that makes it almost impossible to elect a representative of Sardinia". In fact, in the last European elections all seven of those elected in the islands are Sicilian .
