The Peace Concert, scheduled for Friday, September 4th at 9:00 PM in Quartu Sant'Elena's Sala dell'Affresco, will be dedicated to peace and coexistence between communities. The evening's headliner will be guitarist Simone Onnis, in an event organized by the Sound Music Art Association, the Consular Corps of Sardinia, and the Quartu Sant'Elena Municipal Administration, led by Mayor Graziano Milia.

The initiative will bring together representatives from diverse sectors of civil society: representatives of religious denominations, professional associations, institutions, associations, and social and cultural groups will be present, in a moment of encounter that aims to convey a message of dialogue and peace through music.

The choice of Simone Onnis as the evening's star takes on particular significance given his international artistic career. Throughout his career, the Sicilian virtuoso has been repeatedly invited and supported by Italian institutions, Italian Cultural Institutes, and Italian diplomatic missions to perform concerts and educational activities in countries experiencing conflict and profound socio-political crises.

Onnis has brought his music to Israel and the Palestinian Territories, Syria, Lebanon, and Ukraine, as well as China and Mongolia, participating on several occasions in activities promoted in the context of Italian cultural and diplomatic relations.

The path developed in the Middle East is particularly significant.

Between 2008 and 2009 he held concerts in Jerusalem, Haifa, Shfaram and Ramallah, at the invitation of the Consulate General of Italy in Jerusalem and the Italian Cultural Institute in Haifa.

In 2011, during the Arab Spring and at the beginning of the Syrian crisis, he performed at the Damascus Conservatory and at the Residence of the Italian Ambassador.

In Lebanon, in 2015 and 2016, he continued his concert and training activities, also creating the “Corde Mediterranee” project with the Lebanese musician Charbel Rouhana, connecting the classical guitar and the oud.

In 2022, during the war in Ukraine, Onnis performed in Lviv and Kiev, under particularly difficult conditions related to the conflict, bringing Italian music to important Ukrainian cultural sites. The Kiev concert, at the National Philharmonic of Ukraine, was organized under the auspices of UNESCO on the occasion of World Music Day.

Experiences in which, over the years, the artistic dimension has intertwined with that of cultural diplomacy, using music as a concrete opportunity for encounter even in the most challenging contexts.

The evening of September 4th was born from this very idea: to create a space where people from different backgrounds and worlds can come together around a common language that speaks of harmony between peoples, international understanding, and dialogue between cultures.
