A nightmarish evening, with flames at the gates of the town of Orotelli, animals evacuated from farms, foresters exhausted from the smoke after hours of battle. This is the outcome of the large fire that broke out from Monte Nigheddu, in Orani, and for which the situation continues to cause concern.
The two Canadairs that have been operating on site since the afternoon returned to the base in Olbia, together with the seven helicopters of the regional fleet, including the Super Puma that arrived from Fenosu. The control phases are underway with the teams on the ground, working tirelessly between the countryside and the town centre.
Among these, the Nuoro Fire Brigade, engaged with eight rescue teams equipped with fire engines, off-road vehicles and tankers, active in countering the advance of the flames towards the SS 129.
In addition to the strong wind, the presence of some LPG cylinders on the outskirts of the town is worrying.
«The situation in the town is currently under control - the Fire Brigade said - but there remain some active outbreaks in the surrounding countryside, areas that are difficult to reach by land vehicles. The advanced command post, managed by the guard officer, remains operational to coordinate firefighting and monitoring operations."
