All eyes are also on the results of the regional elections among Sardinian emigrants abroad. Relations with politics are inevitable for the dozens of clubs scattered around the world, because the funding for the activities depends on the Department of Labor. But the presidents of associations and federations have never stopped asking not only for contributions, which in fact are a minimal part, but above all a consideration for everything that, almost as "ambassadors of their land", they do in the various states of residence to make learn about the culture, history and traditions of the island, thus also contributing to spreading its image and encouraging tourism. Bureaucracy, transport and valorization of the world of emigration are the themes that characterize the comments after the election of Alessandra Todde as president of the Region.

Best wishes for a good job come from Switzerland . Domenico Scala , honorary president of the Federation of clubs and deputy vice president of the Regional Emigration Council, underlines how many Sardinians recognize themselves «in the new president as an expat, born in Sardinia and trained abroad , with a path similar to that of many other young people from the region who today study and work across the border. For these reasons, our organizations declare themselves available to further strengthen their commitment and collaboration with the Region both to encourage the programs for the return of youth resources currently abroad for the development of the Island, as enunciated by the president herself, and in general to promote policies for the return of Sardinian emigrants from abroad to counter the phenomenon of depopulation of the internal areas of the region".

«After Eleonora d'Arborea, Sardinia finally has a woman at the helm ». Marga Tavera , president of the Federation of Sardinian clubs in Argentina , does not hide her great satisfaction. «The important thing is that our work to make our Island known and the activities of disseminating our culture are valued and appreciated , considering that we - even if we are now second and third generation Sardinians - continue the path started by our fathers and from our grandparents." «We hope – continues Tavera – that the new president will continue to be interested in our world of Sardinians abroad, just as we from here will continue to be proud of our origins by transmitting our culture to the new generations and obviously to the local population». Marga Tavera confirms how important «the support from regional politics is to consolidate the network of Sardinian associations». Finally the wish: «Good work to Alessandra Todde, for Sardinia, for the Sardinians and also for us Sardinians abroad».

More on the political front is the comment by Pietro Mariani , of the General Council of Italians Abroad, resident in Spain : «On the island, the coalition with the best proposal for a change which was due and desirable, won. The centre-right's management was disastrous and their candidate was not presentable, given the results of his management as mayor of Cagliari. The winner was a woman who has many merits, who has courage but who will have to demonstrate the ability to manage the coalition and the program . I hope it works for all Sardinians and that the electoral laws are changed giving emigrants and non-locals the opportunity to vote remotely. Today traveling has significant costs and not everyone can afford to leave their job to exercise their right to vote . Sardinia "land of women" won, to paraphrase a recent successful film."

From Poland , Alberto Defraia – president of the “Shardana” club in Warsaw – recalls issues such as transport, « we are at the gates of summer and it is very important to focus on tourism and connections , we are still very far away compared to realities like Spain, for example ", but not only. There is also the problem of water , «an important resource at risk on the island: it is necessary to reconsider all the unfinished dams or those in need of maintenance and give priority to minimizing water losses from the networks. In short, plan a rational use of resources in general." And, again, other needs are to « reduce bureaucracy and promote the digitalization of local and regional entities. Investing in healthcare , for example by strengthening the presence of specialized clinics throughout the regional territory, thus reducing the pressure on the large hospitals of Cagliari and Sassari. And invest in strategic infrastructures , primarily internal rail transport which has remained stagnant since fifty years ago."

Even from Germany the prevailing feeling is proactive: «I am particularly happy that a woman is finally governing Sardinia and has the strength to overcome the problems and difficulties she will encounter – says Paolo Atzori , president of the Federation of Sardinian clubs in Germany -. I would ask Alessandra Todde for assiduous contact with the representatives of foreign emigration because only in this way can we overcome the many obstacles and various difficulties. Without forgetting the rest: transport is a crucial point both "for" or "from" Sardinia, not only for the residents, both when thinking about development and tourism and of course the unsustainable situation for us emigrants. Many – recalls Atzori – did not have the opportunity to arrive to cast their vote. We need to change something and insert digital voting which would make things much easier by forcing politicians to pay more attention to us who are abroad." In general, the strongest desire is for " more assiduous communication ".

There is no shortage of requests to listen to Sardinian politicians from Holland : «In the last year we have worked well – is the thought of Mario Agus , consultant for the Sardinian circles in the Netherlands -. They increased the contribution for emigrants. From 2 million to 3 million euros. We ask the new president that the real emigrants, those who live abroad, be listened to , because thanks to them we can continue to make Sardinia known and promoted. Many did not come to vote, as the contribution made available - maximum limit of 250 euros - is not enough to pay for travel tickets . It is therefore essential - he concludes - to increase to at least 400 euros for those in Europe and to 1,200 euros for emigrants in non-European countries".
