Massimo Zedda's new Cagliari: "We are ready to invest 700 million"
From via San Paolo verde to two new beaches in Sant'Elia. But also kiosks in viale Europa and the Terrapieno to be redone like the ancient walls: the announcement on RadiolinaPer restare aggiornato entra nel nostro canale Whatsapp
Massimo Zedda takes a long view: «I have few certainties, but one awareness: if one does not set the work of the following five years in the first six months, one does not see things realized». The reason for that premise also arrives shortly: the mayor of Cagliari, since he returned to Palazzo Bacaredda at the end of June 2024, has supported the administration of the ordinary with the new plan for public works. On Radiolina, guest of the program “A tu per tu”, the first previews ( here is the complete interview: the mayor also spoke about civic markets, security and red zones to be established in agreement with the Prefecture ).
The income statement
Meanwhile, the figure: from now until 2029, the Zedda administration will invest 700 million. "We will take the resources of the 2021-2027 European programming and also a piece of the next one". An enormous treasure destined to change the face of the Sardinian capital once again. For the mayor, this is the third term at the helm of the city.
Saint Elias
In the seaside village, two new beaches are planned. "You can also see it on Google Maps," Zedda said. "There is a natural accumulation of sand, both in the dam that faces east, and in the one created by the new marina. There we do not have a dune system to preserve, it is not the Poetto. There are breakwater boulders, more sand can be brought in." The rest is the coastline to be connected definitively, "from the seafront to the Molentargius park."
In the center
Further away from the water, in ancient Cagliari, the walls will be restored. Here too, the money has been allocated. Safe. «The construction site will start from the Public Gardens to reach the Mereu school and connect the promenade of Via Regina Elena to the Bastione – explained Zedda -. The Terrapieno will also be completely redone».
The green areas
The mayor speaks of a "connection between the city parks". From the hill of San Michele passing through the garden of the Diocesan Seminary and Monte Claro. Then Tuvumannu and Tuvixeddu to arrive at Sant'Avendrace, where the master plan of via San Paolo is ready, between the railway and the lagoon. In the middle "the university centers of Sa Duchessa and Piazza D'Armi - continues Zedda -, as well as the legal-economic garrison of viale Fra Ignazio, then the Roman Amphitheater and Castle, as well as the Botanical Garden and the park of the Civil Hospital, which a small door separates from the military one. We have arrived in Piazza Yenne".
The neighborhoods
The city that Zedda wants does not neglect the different destinies of the neighborhoods. "We have allocated resources for the demolitions in Piazza dei Granatieri di Sardegna: we need to rebuild with the concept of decent housing and liveable urban spaces." This is also where the urban recovery plans for "Santa Teresa a Pirri" and the "redevelopments of Is Mirrionis and San Michele" come in.
The news
Cagliari will also change in one of its highest observation points: «In Viale Europa, the flat part on the top of Monte Urpinu, we will intervene in a similar way to Poetto, with kiosks. We will animate those places». Zedda's cards are on the table. The promise is launched. In fact, a new pact with the city. With an expiry date: the end of the (renewable) mandate in 2029. In the meantime, «the ordinary maintenance of streets, squares, public buildings and green areas» will continue.
