Cardinal Angelo Becciu confirms that he believes he should be admitted to the Conclave . In statements released to Reuters , he says that his role has changed since that evening in 2020 , when the Pope stripped him of the rights of the cardinalate. And in addition to confirming what he had already stated - that there was "no explicit will" to exclude him from the conclave and he was never asked to renounce the privilege in writing - he adds that the Pope was close to making a decision on his status.
He says he met the Pope in January, before being admitted to Gemelli in February, and quotes him as saying, “ I think I’ve found a solution .” He says he doesn’t know whether the Pope left him written instructions on this matter.
" My brother cardinals will decide ," concludes Becciu while awaiting the discussion in the pre-Conclave congregations.
