Bernie Madoff, "the greatest scammer in history" dies

He had been in prison since 2008, after being sentenced to 150 years in prison for a fraud worth over 50 billion

At the age of almost 83, Bernie Madoff, the architect of one of the greatest scams in history, died in prison in the USA.

From what we learn, the death would have occurred from natural causes.

A former lifeguard, he made his first investment in 1960, increasing his fortune over the years. But with deception.

He was arrested in 2008, after the denunciation of one of his sons. The accusations were those of fraud and money laundering: with a company structured according to the so-called "Ponzi scheme" he was in fact able to be entrusted with a monstrous sum of money to invest, equal to over 50 billion dollars, also attracting leading companies such as Apple , Sun Microsystems, Google and Cisco System.

For years, neither the authorities nor the investors were able to understand that in reality the money invested did not bring real gains, having instead caused dizzying shortages for the benefit of Madoff himself, who in the meantime had made a name for himself as a financial magician, also becoming president of the Nasdaq technology list.

Then the financial crisis of 2008 and the tip-off of a mole (his son) put an end to the colossal scam (the scammed were almost 40 thousand in 136 countries).

After the arrest, the trial was held, at the end of which Madoff was sentenced to 150 years in prison.
