Sardinia on its knees, red alert on most of the regional territory

The most critical situations in the center of the region

Emergency in Sardinia from the early hours of the day. As announced by the red alert issued by the Civil Protection, much of the island is affected by bad weather .

Heavy rain and strong winds lash the region. In Bitti there is a dead and a missing person: the impressive images tell the tragedy with the streets transformed into rivers (HERE THE VIDEO). So much so that the mayor, Giuseppe Ciccolini, ordered the evacuation, as a precaution, of the families residing in via Brescia, in the lower part of the town, the neighborhood where a graveyard canal passes and where during the flood of 2013 - which had caused 19 deaths in Sardinia - had sunk after a landslide in the road, a tanker of the fire brigade.

As confirmed on the Videolina news by the regional councilor Gianni Lampis, from 2pm today and until tomorrow at 6am Sardinia is the red zone for hydrogeological risk, and hydraulic risk in some areas such as those of Flumendosa and Gallura. The storms are currently concentrated on the eastern part of the island and there is also alarm in some municipalities of the Medio Campidano.

But there are many inconveniences: the traffic police blocked traffic for a few hours at Km 39 of the 389 state road that connects Nuoro to Lanusei, where material from the adjacent ridge collapsed on the roadway.

The road was promptly reopened after the work of the Anas technicians. Discomforts also at Km 68 of the SS 131 Dcn, near the junction for Orosei, where there was a flood.

State road 129 Nuoro-Macomer also closed due to flooding near Iloghe and Sp 46 towards Lula.

Due to heavy rains, the 129 south "Occidentale Sarda" state road was closed in both directions from km 92 to km 97 in the locality of Guspini. At the moment the traffic is diverted to the state road 197 "of San Gavino e del Flumini" and to the provincial roads.

Furthermore, again due to flooding, the state road 389 of Buddusò and Correboi in the municipality of Buddusò, in the province of Sassari, was closed at km 32,600.

In Nuoro the mayor Andrea Soddu asks for caution: "I urge citizens not to travel in the marked areas of the territory, the situation is worrying due to the rain and reduced visibility".

In Baronia the administrators make an appeal to the shepherds and to all citizens inviting them to move from the areas at risk and to save themselves. "The Preda and Othoni dam is discharging over 400 cubic meters per second - write the administrators of Irgoli on the Facebook page of the Municipality - We are preparing the closure of the roads adjacent to the Cedrino river and the Rio Santa Maria and we recommend to the shepherds present in those areas to secure the flocks and to move immediately ".

Even the mayor of Galtellì Giovanni Santo Porcu warns the population through a statement posted on Facebook: "In a few minutes the Sologo is bringing millions of cubic meters of water downstream. The situation is quite critical also because the Cedrino has started to overflow, with only the water of the Sologo, the water of the dam has not yet arrived. I invite everyone to return to their homes ".

Villacidro almost completely isolated also due to the partial closure of some roads. The state road 196 at kilometer 16 up to the town of Villacidro, the provincial road 61 from the roundabout to the town and the state road 197 at kilometer 10 are impracticable due to heavy rainfall. Discomfort in San Gavino Monreale and Pabillonis due to flooding, Vigili of the Fire on the spot. The carabinieri guard the strategic points for the diversion of traffic.

Today schools, parks and cemeteries closed in Cagliari, Olbia, Quartu and many other municipalities on the island.

In the Sardinian capital there were moments of concern over a collapsed tree in the area of Monte Urpino ( HERE THE VIDEO ), while at Poetto the beach is flooded (THE VIDEO ).

SOLINAS - The President of the Region, Christian Solinas, is following the rescue operations in constant connection with the Civil Protection; the whole regional machine is mobilized. The governor expressed his closeness to the communities affected by the serious phenomena and his deepest condolences for the victims.
